Nagpur bench orders strict DJ ban enforcement across Vidarbha

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has taken a strict view of loud DJ music played during Dahi Handi and Marbat festivities in Nagpur. The court made it clear that the notification banning DJs, issued by Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, must be strictly enforced by the police.

Despite the notification, DJs were played loudly during the Dahi Handi and Marbat processions. Petitioners presented video evidence of this to the court. The petition on noise pollution was filed by the Trimurtinagar Mandal before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court.

Based on the reports and videos presented in court, the court has directed appropriate action against the organisers concerned. It also said the DJ ban order should be enforced not only in Nagpur but in the other districts of Vidarbha as well.

The court observed that merely issuing a notification on the DJ ban or noise pollution rules is not enough; it is also the responsibility of the police to ensure the rules are strictly followed. For this reason, the court has directed that the DJ ban order be enforced in other districts of Vidarbha too. It has also directed the police commissioner to file an affidavit in court by September 22 detailing the action taken so far.

Meanwhile, a noise pollution case has also come up over the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's procession in Nagpur, leading to a case being registered at Sitabuldi police station. In addition, a total of three cases have been registered in two separate actions. Despite the ban on DJs and various sound systems in the city, police investigation found that Dolby speakers were played louder than the permitted limit during the VHP procession. The procession was taken out in the city on Sunday to mark the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's foundation day, after which Sitabuldi police registered three separate cases in the matter.
