High Court orders seizure of DJ, Dolby systems in 10 Vidarbha districts

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has told the police and administration that violators of noise pollution rules need firm action, not just paperwork. The court has ordered the seizure of DJ, Dolby and other sound systems being used in violation of the rules.

The order is not limited to Nagpur city alone. Police in all 10 districts of Vidarbha that fall under the jurisdiction of the Nagpur bench will have to comply with it. The court has told the police that these orders must be implemented on the ground within the next 15 days.

Advocate Tushar Mandlekar gave this information. He appealed to the media to keep watch on whether the court's orders remain on paper or are actually implemented.

Earlier, Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil had already imposed a ban on the use of DJ, music systems and Dolby sound systems under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

During the hearing, the state government informed the court about these very restrictions imposed by the Nagpur police commissioner. But the court made it clear that imposing a ban alone would not suffice, and that violators must actually face action.

The court then directed the concerned officials to take action against sound systems violating the rules and seize them, and to enforce this with full strictness.

Since this order will apply across 10 districts of Vidarbha, those playing DJ, Dolby and other sound systems at high volume could now face direct police action and seizure of their equipment.

The coming 15 days will be crucial, as this period will determine how seriously the police and administration implement these High Court orders.
