Laborer murdered in Nagpur over drinking dispute, CCTV exposes killing

A 36-year-old laborer from Wardha was killed in a drinking dispute near a bar in Nagpur, with CCTV footage helping police identify three accused.

A young laborer was murdered following a dispute during drinking near a bar in the Beltarodi police station area of Nagpur. CCTV footage exposed the killing.

The deceased, 36-year-old Shankar Kukde, was originally from Hinganghat in Wardha. He had been working as a laborer in Nagpur for about five years. His family lives in Hinganghat.

On the night of September 14, Shankar was found lying injured near Tripti Bar. On receiving information, Beltarodi police reached the spot and took him to hospital, where he was declared dead. After his brother identified the body, police registered a case of murder against unknown accused and began an investigation.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from around the scene. In one clip, some young men were seen assaulting Shankar. Based on the CCTV footage, police took Sunny Santaram Gaikwad, Rohit Rameshwar Khujnare and Tushar Sanjay Khandare into custody. They confessed to killing Shankar.

The accused were drinking at the spot, and Shankar was sitting at some distance, also drinking. A dispute broke out between them, and the accused killed him. The accused Sunny Gaikwad has prior cases registered against him.

Liquor shops were closed on September 14 on account of Ganesh Chaturthi, yet the deceased and the accused were consuming liquor at the spot.
