Ghaziabad Class 10 student dies, note found in room points to exam stress
A 16-year-old Class 10 student died in Ghaziabad's Gaur Siddharthum Society, and a note from her room has given police a new lead.
A tragic incident came to light in Ghaziabad's Gaur Siddharthum Society on Tuesday evening. A 16-year-old girl, a Class 10 student living there, died. The incident occurred around 6:30 pm, and police reached the spot soon after being informed.
Seeing her condition was critical, the student was rushed to hospital, but doctors declared her dead. She has been identified as Shanaya Bisht, a Class 10 student. Vijay Nagar police have opened an investigation into the case.
According to police, a preliminary probe found a note in Shanaya's room. The note refers to stress over Class 10 studies and examinations.
Shanaya lived with her family at Gaur Siddharthum Society in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The initial investigation found she was under pressure over her studies with her Class 10 board exams approaching. However, police have not yet reached a final conclusion on whether exam stress alone was the cause of her death or whether other factors were involved.
Following the incident, police have begun questioning Shanaya's family members as well as her acquaintances, gathering information about her daily behaviour, her academic standing and recent events in her life. Statements from residents of the society and eyewitnesses are also being recorded.
Dharampal Singh, station house officer of Vijay Nagar police station, said the case is being investigated from multiple angles, with questioning of both the family and people who were in contact with the student. Police have taken into custody the note found in her room along with other evidence.
Efforts are now under way, based on forensic examination and the evidence collected, to determine the actual cause of the student's death. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the area, and it has also raised concern among parents about the pressure of studies and exams on minors. Police say they are examining every possible angle, and further legal action will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
