Man stones government ambulance in Chandrapur, threatens doctor

A youth stoned a government ambulance parked on the premises of Bothli Primary Health Centre in Sawali taluka of Chandrapur district, causing extensive damage to it. The medical officer who tried to intervene was abused and threatened with death during the incident. Sawali police have registered a case against a youth from the village on a complaint by the health centre's medical officer, Dr Chakrapani Khristan Ganvir.

According to information received, Dr Chakrapani Ganvir (57) has been working as medical officer at Bothli Primary Health Centre since April 2024 and lives in the government quarters attached to the centre. On the night of September 14, 2026, around 9:30 pm, he heard a loud sound of something breaking outside. He stepped out of his quarters and reached the health centre gate, where he saw a man fearlessly pelting stones at the government ambulance parked on the premises, breaking its windows. When Dr Ganvir tried to stop him, the man lunged at the doctor, saying "Who are you to stop me," abused him in filthy language and threatened to kill him.

Dr Ganvir then immediately called the village's ambulance driver, Praful Anil Itkelwar, and asked him to come to the health centre. By the time the driver arrived, the man who had caused the damage had moved some distance away. The driver recognised him and identified him as Subhash Ramesh Appalwar (around 34), a resident of Bothli. On inspecting the vehicle after the incident, it was found that the stone-pelting had broken the ambulance's front windshield, both headlights, windows on both sides and the glass of the left-side door, causing government losses of around Rs 24,000.

Dr Chakrapani Ganvir went to Sawali police station and formally lodged a complaint over the damage caused to the government vehicle, obstruction of government work, and abusing and threatening the medical officer. Based on the complaint, Sawali police have registered a case against the accused, Subhash Appalwar, under sections 324(3), 324(4), 351(2) and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. The case is being investigated by police constable Keval Nimbaji Ture under the guidance of station in-charge Pradeep Pullarwar.
