Daylight burglary in Warora, gold and cash worth Rs 1.25 lakh stolen
Thieves broke into a locked house in Warora's Vidhate Layout in broad daylight, making off with gold jewellery and cash worth Rs 1.25 lakh.
Burglars broke the latch and lock of a house in the Vidhate Layout area of Warora town in broad daylight and made off with gold jewellery and cash worth a total of Rs 1,25,000. The burglary took place in a four-hour window between 12 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday. A case has been registered against unidentified accused at Warora police station based on a complaint by the homeowner, Sushant Gopal Agalawe.
Sushant Agalawe (30), who lives in the Vidhate Layout area behind Ambadevi Ward, was at home on Tuesday morning. Around 7:30 am he dropped his sister at Ratnamala Chowk for her trip to Nagpur. He then dropped his mother, Sunita Agalawe, at her maternal relative's house in Mohbala around 10:30 am and returned home. Sushant was at home until 12 pm, after which he locked the main door properly and went to meet friends at the Mahakal Ganesh Mandal in Warora, later going to a friend's house in Voltage Colony.
Around 4 pm, when his mother returned home from her relative's village, she found the main door open. Noticing the broken latch and lock, she realised a theft had taken place. She immediately called her son Sushant and informed the police. When the Agalawe family entered the house, they found the lock of an iron Godrej cupboard in the bedroom broken with both doors open, and clothes and other belongings scattered inside. A small purse containing gold jewellery, hidden among sarees in the cupboard, and a larger purse containing Rs 10,000 in cash were missing.
The burglars took a 5-gram gold badami ring worth Rs 50,000, a 3-gram gold ring worth Rs 30,000, a 2.5-gram gold bindi-pendant earring worth Rs 25,000 and a 1-gram gold Om locket worth Rs 10,000 from the cupboard, gold items worth Rs 1,15,000 in all. Along with the Rs 10,000 cash kept in the purse, the total value of stolen property came to Rs 1,25,000.
A case has been registered at Warora police station under sections 305(a) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, against the unidentified accused who took advantage of the house being locked to commit the theft in broad daylight. Under the guidance of station in-charge Omprakash Sontakke, Police Sub-Inspector Kishor Mittalwar is investigating the case further, and CCTV cameras in the area are being checked.
