Wardha collector hands over 25 bikes to police Damini squad

A handover ceremony for 25 new two-wheelers to strengthen the Wardha district police's Damini squad was held on September 10, 2026, at the drill ground of the police headquarters in Wardha. The step was taken to give greater priority to the safety of women and girls and to respond promptly to complaints from women with the necessary police help. The TVS Jupiter two-wheelers, provided with the cooperation of the Wardha District Planning Committee, were handed over to the Damini squad by Collector Vanmathi C.

The purpose behind the distribution of the vehicles is to increase patrolling at locations sensitive from the point of view of women's safety, make regular visits to schools, colleges, markets, bus stands and areas with a large presence of women, and take immediate note of complaints. Of the 25 two-wheelers, the Wardha City, Hinganghat, Arvi and Pulgaon police stations have each been given 2 two-wheelers, while the remaining police stations have received 1 each. The Damini squad at the Superintendent of Police's office has been given 2 two-wheelers. The vehicles will allow the Damini squad to reach locations quickly when needed, communicate with women and girls, take immediate note of complaints, and take prompt preventive action against incidents of harassment or threats to women's safety.

Through the Damini squad, special emphasis will be placed on creating awareness about women's safety, preventive patrolling and prompt response to complaints, and the Wardha police force is continuously working to build a sense of security among women and girls. At the same event, Collector Vanmathi C. briefed those present on the legal rights of women and girls, protection from cyber crimes, safe use of social media and precautions to take in emergencies.

Superintendent of Police Wardha, Saurabhkumar Agrawal, said in his remarks that the safety of women is not the responsibility of the police force alone but the collective responsibility of the whole of society. He appealed to women not to be afraid of any kind of harassment and to immediately contact the police through the Damini squad's helpline number 7620520025 or the police helpline number 112.

This initiative by the Wardha district police force will give further momentum to measures for women's safety, marking another step towards the goal of a safe society for women. The event was attended by Superintendent of Police Saurabhkumar Agrawal, Additional Superintendent of Police Sadashiv Waghmare, Assistant Collector Shobhika Pathak, Deputy Regional Transport Officer Sneha Mendhe, Women and Child Development Officer Trupti Chavan, as well as a large number of women police officers, women police personnel, and college professors and students from across the district. The programme's introduction was given by Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Pulgaon, Vandana Karkhele, while the vote of thanks was given by Damini squad chief Madhuri Waghade.
