Local residents allege that three illegal rackets, Jhendi-Mundi, Katpatta and betting, have resurfaced together in the area. What is surprising is that this alleged racket is said to be operating in or adjoining the area around the forest department's government office. No official has yet confirmed these allegations.
According to information from local residents, it is being discussed that people linked to a group from Wani, along with some people from the Gadchandur area, are jointly running this gambling den in Vansadi. However, this claim too has not been separately verified, and there is a demand that the concerned police and forest department should visit the spot themselves to bring out the truth.
It is alleged that women in the area are facing the most trouble because of this alleged gambling den. Women going to fields and farmland have to use this same route. Local residents say that the crowd gathering here for gambling, and the alleged illegal activity, makes women uncomfortable and causes them trouble. The question being raised is, if the area of a government office itself is being used for illegal activities, whose blessing is all this running on. It is now being asked whether the concerned forest department officials are aware of this, and if they are, why no action has been taken so far.
Local residents say police action has been taken against illegal activities in this area before as well. Despite this, this alleged gambling business is said to have started again in full swing, raising the question of how much fear of action remains. Names such as "Mayur" and the "Wani gang" are also being mentioned in local discussion, but their actual connection, if any, to the alleged illegal business needs to be clarified only through police investigation. It is being said that once action is taken, if the illegal business starts again in the same area, the question is no longer just about gambling, but also who is protecting this business, who is turning a blind eye despite knowing about it, and where the courage to reopen shop after action comes from.
Police reportedly took swift action against betting in the Korpana area, causing a stir among the illegal operators. All eyes are now on Vansadi, on when police will take action there.
