A woman and her 3-year-old child were seriously injured on Wednesday morning after their scooter came under the front wheel of a bus belonging to Sanjay Travels at Vaishno Devi Chowk in Nagpur. Both were rushed to a private hospital, where they are currently being treated in the ICU. The child is said to have suffered a deep head injury.
According to information received, Damini Uthra was riding her scooter with her 3-year-old son Risav Uthra, having picked him up from school, and was headed towards Ghat Road. While trying to cross the Sanjay Travels bus, which had crossed the signal at Vaishno Devi Chowk and was moving ahead, her scooter came under the bus's front wheel.
The impact was so severe that the woman and her child were dragged along the road for some distance. A passerby who witnessed the incident shouted at the bus driver to stop the vehicle. It is said that the driver was unaware of the accident until then and applied the brakes only after hearing the passerby.
Immediately after the accident, people in the area helped the injured mother and son and took them to a private hospital for treatment. Both are said to be in a serious condition and have been kept in the ICU.
According to reports, no passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident, and the driver had reportedly set out without a conductor. The entire incident is said to have been captured on a CCTV camera fitted in the bus.
After the accident, local residents also raised questions about the presence of police at Vaishno Devi Chowk. Police reached the spot as soon as they were informed and began an investigation. They are examining the circumstances and causes of the accident based on the CCTV footage.
