Thane Metro trial run succeeds, service to begin by December
A successful trial run between Kasarvadavali and Nitin Company has cleared the way for Thane's first metro line to open to passengers by the end of December.

The metro that Thane residents have long waited for is now close to rolling out. Under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) metro project, a trial run recently conducted between Kasarvadavali and Nitin Company was successful. Following this successful trial, it has now been decided that the first phase of the Thane Metro will be opened for passengers by the end of December.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik shared the news at a public event. He said the crucial Wadala to Kasarvadavali metro route has received the necessary safety certificate, the CMRS, and the administration is now working on a war footing to get the metro running by December. Large crowds gathered on roads and flyovers in Thane to catch a glimpse of the metro's look and hear its horn. The moment thousands of Thane residents have been eagerly waiting for is now close at hand.
The MMRDA has secured most of the legal and technical approvals needed for the metro. Work on all the stations on this route is in its final stage, and it is expected that Thane residents will be able to travel on this metro by the end of December.
Earlier, in February, a safety railing on this metro line had collapsed in an unfortunate incident. This accident had slowed down the project's work and delayed the RDSO certification. However, having overcome all the technical hurdles, the administration has now picked up the pace of work again.
The full project comprises Metro 4 (32.32 km) and Metro 4A (2.7 km), with a total of 32 stations. However, to give passengers service as soon as possible, the first phase covering the 10.5 km stretch from Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction will be opened first. This first phase of 10.5 km has 10 modern stations.
In the first phase, metro service will begin on the 10.5 km route from Cadbury Junction to Gaimukh, with a total of 10 stations. These stations are Cadbury Junction, Majiwada, Kapurbawdi, Manpada, Tikujiniwadi, Dongripada, Vijay Garden, Kasarvadavali, Govaniwada and Gaimukh.
