Woman thought dead and cremated in Gadchiroli returns home alive after a year
Mentally unwell and missing for a year, a Gadchiroli woman whose family had performed her last rites was found alive in Nagbhir taluka
An incident from Vidarbha has left the entire area moved. Sixty-year-old Dasso Mukka Kando, a resident of Moharli village in the Surjagad area of Etapalli taluka in Gadchiroli district, had suddenly left home about a year ago due to her poor mental health.
Her family made every effort to find her, searching in several areas including Chhattisgarh, but found no trace of her. As days passed, hope of finding her faded, and the family eventually accepted that she had died. A few months ago, following local tradition, her clothes were placed in a pit and a symbolic grave was made for her, a thirteenth-day ritual was performed, and the entire village was fed.
Around this time, Mukka Kando was spotted wandering by the roadside in the Taloli Balapur area of Nagbhir taluka by a local person. Showing humanity, that person immediately contacted the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Ashram of the "Domaji Aadhar Foundation" in Nanded (Nagbhir taluka). On receiving the news, ashram member Parmeshwar Malawi reached the spot and had the helpless woman admitted to the ashram.
At the ashram, she received necessary treatment on the advice of doctors from a mental hospital in Nagpur. With proper care and medication, her condition gradually improved. The ashram then posted a video of her rescue on social media. This video was seen by Dasso's nephew and other people from the village, which is how the family learned that their mother, missing for a year, was alive.
Once fully convinced, Parmeshwar Malawi, Rajni Kumbhare, Manish Khobragade, Ashish Khobragade, Aditya Uike and Samriddh Khobragade of the Domaji Aadhar Foundation undertook a five-hour journey by vehicle to safely take Mukka Kando back to her village, Moharli. Seeing their mother standing alive at the door, her husband, son and daughter broke into tears. The mother for whom a grave had been made was back, and the entire village was filled with joy.
