Job creation a shared duty of government and society: Mangal Prabhat Lodha

Providing employment to youth is not the government's job alone but a social responsibility for everyone, said Mangal Prabhat Lodha, minister for skill development, employment, entrepreneurship and innovation. He said the country today enjoys an atmosphere of peace and stability, which has allowed industry, trade and family life to run smoothly.

Lodha said that while the number of unemployed young men and women in Maharashtra may be large, employment opportunities are also available in large numbers. However, he said, youth often lose out in job interviews for want of the necessary skills or confidence, and end up not getting the job they want.

He was speaking on Friday at the district collector's office in Bandra East, where the skill development department and the Mumbai suburban district collector held an "Employer Round Table" programme. The event was held ahead of the "Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Vishwavikrami Rozgar Mahakumbh" job fair to be held across Maharashtra on September 29.

The minister said every young person today dreams of a good job, and youth should also take a positive view of employment opportunities in skill-based sectors. Young people working in skill-based sectors abroad get good salaries and job opportunities, he said, and industries should come forward to offer Maharashtra's youth similarly skilled and good job opportunities.

The programme was attended by human resource management representatives of 32 well-known industries and establishments from Maharashtra. Lodha appealed to industries and establishments to raise any suggestions, objections or difficulties regarding the upcoming job fair as soon as possible. The skill development department has made an online form available for industries and establishments, and companies have been asked to fill it in quickly to register. Companies facing any technical difficulty while filling the form were asked to contact the skill development department or the concerned district collector's office.

Lodha also said that just as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is working for the development of Maharashtra, every company should also have the mindset of contributing to the state's development. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed before the country the dream of a developed India by 2047, he said, adding that this dream is gradually being realised and India has become the world's fourth largest economy.

The minister said companies should share information about all their vacant positions so that the right young men and women with the necessary skills can be provided. He said Maharashtra's youth are the state's own people who need love, support and the right opportunity, and companies in the state should join this initiative and cooperate. On the occasion, Amit Saini, commissioner of the skill development department, gave a detailed presentation on the job fair to the human resource management representatives of industries and establishments. Mumbai suburban district collector Saurabh Katiyar was also present.
