Pune: Singhgad Road police nab history-sheeter with country-made pistol

Crime has been steadily rising in Pune, with incidents of murder, attempted murder and assault continuing unabated, leaving residents on edge. Amid this, a major case has emerged from the city. Singhgad Road police recovered a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from a history-sheeter who was stopped on suspicion in the Hingane Khurd area.

The arrested accused has been identified as Siddhesh Suresh Pawar, 31, a resident of Vishrantinagar, Hingane Khurd, Pune. Police seized a pistol worth about Rs 40,000 and a live cartridge worth about Rs 1,000 from him.

The action was carried out by a team of Sub-Inspector Bhupesh Salunke, police personnel Uttam Taru and Anna Kekan, on information from Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar and Police Inspector (Crime) Sameer Gaikwad.

On September 11, 2026, an investigation team from Singhgad Road police station was patrolling the area to prevent crime. During the patrol, police personnel Praful Chavan and Yuvraj Kamble received a tip-off from an informant that a man wearing a black T-shirt and white trousers was standing by the roadside with a weapon on the road from Vishrantinagar to Janata Vasahat, near Shankar Mandir in Hingane Khurd. The information was passed to Sub-Inspector Bhupesh Salunke, who was in charge of the investigation team. Salunke and his team reached the spot, where a young man was found standing. The team took him into custody and began questioning him.

He was initially evasive and did not give clear answers to police questions, which raised suspicion that he might be carrying a weapon. When police searched him, they found a country-made pistol and a live cartridge on him.

According to police, the pistol is worth about Rs 40,000 and the cartridge about Rs 1,000. Pawar has been arrested, and Sub-Inspector Bhupesh Salunke is carrying out further investigation. Police are probing where the seized weapon came from and for what purpose it was meant to be used.
