A drinking water pipeline was being laid in the Krishi Nagar area of Nashik, for which pipes had been placed across the road. A young man named Siddharth Gore, riding his bike through the area, crashed into one of these pipes. The accident occurred near the jogging track in Krishi Nagar. Siddharth was critically injured in the collision and died during treatment.
Following the accident, anger spread among Siddharth's family and relatives. The family has alleged that no proper warning signs or barricading were put up at the site to alert riders that pipeline work was underway. They say the accident happened because of the contractor's negligence, and that a police case should be registered against the contractor concerned.
In protest, Siddharth Gore's relatives brought his body to the headquarters of the Nashik Municipal Corporation and launched an agitation there. During the protest, they demanded action against the contractor and that a case be registered against those responsible for the accident.
Following the family's allegations, the municipal administration has issued a clarification. The corporation claims that the pipe placed across the road during the pipeline work had radium markings on it so that it would be visible at night or from a distance.
Despite this clarification from the corporation, questions are being raised over whether the safety measures at the accident site were adequate for riders. It should also be investigated whether the necessary warning signs, barricading, lighting and other safety measures were in place when the pipe was laid on the road. Questions remain over exactly how the accident happened and who bears responsibility for it. Whether it was the contractor's negligence or whether adequate safety arrangements were made at the worksite will become clear only after an investigation.
