Nagpur: Two minor brothers sexually abused in Wathoda, 30 year old held

A serious case has come to light in the Rautnagar area under Wathoda police station limits in Nagpur, where two brothers were sexually abused. The children's family filed a complaint, after which police arrested a 30 year old man. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

According to police, the two victims are aged 6 and 11.

Police said the accused has been identified as Ashfaq Hafeez Shaikh (30), a resident of Rautnagar. Initial investigation has found no prior criminal record against him.

According to police, on September 16 the two brothers were playing near a mosque in their neighbourhood. The accused allegedly called the children over, persuaded them to go with him, and took them to a nearby bathroom. Police allege the sexual offence was committed there.

After the incident, the two children returned home frightened. When the family noticed a change in their behaviour and spoke to them, the children allegedly recounted the entire incident.

The children's mother then went to Wathoda police station and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint, Wathoda police registered a case against Ashfaq Shaikh under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and arrested him.

Police are recording the children's statements and examining other evidence related to the case. Investigators are also looking into the full circumstances of the incident, the nature of contact between the accused and the children, and other aspects of the case.

Police officials said further legal action will be taken based on facts that emerge during the investigation.

In line with legal provisions relating to cases involving children, the identity of the minor victims has been kept confidential.
