Beed murder case: video of corporator Altaf Pathan assaulting victim goes viral
A CCTV video showing Parli corporator Altaf Pathan assaulting Baba Shaikh, who later died, has gone viral as Latur police search for the fleeing accused.
A new video has gone viral in the Baba Shaikh murder case in Latur. The video clearly shows Parli corporator Altaf Khan Sardar Khan Pathan, a close aide of former minister Dhananjay Munde, assaulting the victim. The incident has shaken both Latur and Parli, and the case is being investigated by Latur police. Accused corporator Altaf Pathan and two other accused reportedly fled in a Fortuner car. It has also emerged that Altaf Pathan is the Parli taluka president of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) minority cell. A Latur police team has been sent out to catch the absconding accused.
On Wednesday night, September 16, a violent clash broke out outside Aamir Hotel in the Usmanpura area of Latur, in which Shaikh Mansoor Ali alias Baba Shaikh died on the spot, causing a stir. A murder case has been registered against three people in connection with the incident, including Parli NCP corporator Altaf Khan Sardar Khan Pathan. The killing, which stemmed from an old financial dealing, has caused a major stir in political circles in Latur and Beed districts.
According to the complaint, corporator Altaf Pathan had taken Rs 10 lakh from the deceased Shaikh Mansoor Ali and his brother Haider Ali to make them partners in a sand business. There was already tension between the two sides over the exchange of this old sum of Rs 10 lakh. When the two sides came face to face at the hotel on Wednesday night, the dispute over the same Rs 10 lakh flared up again.
Young men who were headed from Parli to Bidar for construction work had stopped to eat at Aamir Hotel in Latur around 10:30 pm. They got into an argument with Altaf Pathan and his associates, who were already seated there. As the argument escalated, the hotel owner asked everyone to go outside. Once outside, the accused took out sharp weapons from their vehicle. According to the complaint, Altaf Pathan directly attacked Mansoor Ali with a sickle, while Umar Shaikh used a knife and Khaled Shaikh used a tile-cutting tool. The accused also attacked two others who intervened to break up the fight; they are currently undergoing treatment at Latur government hospital.
Part of the assault was captured on CCTV at a nearby shop, and this same video of corporator Altaf Pathan assaulting the victim has now gone viral on social media. After the incident, all the accused fled in the car, and a case has been registered at Shivajinagar police station in Latur.
