'Lust Stories 3' review: four directors, fresh take on human desire
Netflix's anthology returns with four directors exploring human desire, getting a 3.5-star rating.
The third part of Netflix's popular anthology franchise, "Lust Stories 3," has been released. The bold and entertaining show has been given a 3.5-star rating. Four different directors have made its stories, and each story speaks of human desires in its own distinct style.
The series opens with a story directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Radhika Apte in lead roles. It is the story of two married women from Kandivali, presented by Motwane in a light and entertaining style. Frustrated with their boring married lives and inspired by K-dramas, the decision the two women take creates tremendous situational comedy in the story. Vijay Varma's natural performance and the pairing of Konkona and Radhika make the audience laugh a lot.
Kiran Rao's segment, set against the backdrop of Mumbai, shows a developing and changing relationship between a nail artist (Sanah Thampi) and a delivery boy (Gurfateh Pirzada), where ambition and circumstances overpower attraction. On the other hand, in Shakun Batra's story, Ali Fazal and Radhika Madan play a married couple on the verge of their marriage breaking down. Shakun Batra has captured the lack of communication and the tangle of human emotions with great subtlety.
The most memorable and beautiful part of the whole anthology is the final story, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Set against the backdrop of Hyderabad in 1978, the story stars Aditi Rao Hydari (as Saira) and Siddhanth (as Badru) in lead roles. Vishal Bhardwaj has brought Hyderabadi Dakhni dialect, echoes of Saadat Hasan Manto's writing, and a housewife's suppressed desires to the screen in his poetic style. Aditi Rao Hydari's performance is deeply innocent and bold, while Gajraj Rao, in a small role as the father-in-law, adds to the story's enjoyment.
Without preaching any philosophy or trying merely to grab publicity, "Lust Stories 3" presents human desires, their fulfilment and physical attraction in a highly entertaining and light-hearted style. The series talks about human desires without any hesitation and entertains audiences well. Good performances, good direction and a light mood make it a good and entertaining OTT series to watch over the weekend.
