Nagpur bans domestic gas cylinders at public festival events
Nagpur administration mandates commercial LPG cylinders for cooking at public festivals and events to curb misuse and prevent accidents
Domestic LPG cylinders can no longer be used for cooking during festivals and public celebrations in Nagpur district. The Nagpur administration has begun cracking down on this and has made it clear that only commercial gas cylinders can be used for food arrangements at events held in public places. The move is aimed at preventing the misuse of domestic cylinders.
In this connection, the food grain distribution office called a meeting. Officials and representatives of gas companies were told how LPG cylinders should be used safely and in line with rules during festivals, and necessary instructions were issued for this.
The official permission letter now issued for public celebrations and events in Nagpur city has also had a condition added requiring the use of commercial LPG cylinders. This means organisers will have to ensure, at the time of taking permission itself, that domestic cylinders are not used for cooking or other necessary tasks. The administration says the aim is to prevent accidents caused by the wrongful use of gas cylinders at public events and to ensure compliance with safety rules.
The meeting also discussed customer complaints regarding gas delivery. Cases where people did not receive their cylinder despite getting an OTP after booking were taken particularly seriously. Gas agency operators were clearly instructed that delivery of the cylinder must be made within the stipulated time after the customer receives the OTP, and that unnecessary delay or negligence in delivery will not be tolerated.
The meeting also discussed curbing the black marketing of LPG, unauthorised storage and illegal sale. Gas companies were told to carry out regular checks and maintain strict control over these. The concerned agencies were also asked to step up their own monitoring and take necessary action against rule violators.
