Nagpur: Travel bus drags mother and son 20 feet, video goes viral
A woman and her 3-year-old son were dragged along with their two-wheeler after a travel bus hit them in Nagpur's Deshpande Layout.
A frightening accident occurred at Vaishno Devi Chowk in Deshpande Layout in Nagpur district on Wednesday afternoon. The driver of a travel bus hit a woman and her 3-year-old son who were riding a two-wheeler.
The collision happened so suddenly that the driver did not realise it, and dragged the two along with the bus for about 20 feet. Although the woman appears to be at fault in the accident, there was no conductor on the bus, nor did the driver notice what was happening behind him.
As the two-wheeler moved past the signal at Vaishno Devi Chowk in Deshpande Layout, Damini suddenly tried to overtake the bus from the left side. The bus driver did not see the two-wheeler, and on impact, Damini and her son Rivansh fell. Both, along with their vehicle, got stuck in the front part of the bus.
The bus driver then dragged them a considerable distance. People nearby raised an alarm and somehow got the bus stopped, and only then did the driver realise what had happened. People caught hold of the bus driver and rushed the injured mother and son to hospital immediately. Damini and Rivansh suffered serious injuries to the head and legs. Police were not present at the spot at the time of the accident, which angered residents.
Those injured in the incident include Damini Hemant Uthada (32), a resident of Vardhamannagar, and her 3-year-old son Rivansh. On a complaint by Damini's husband Hemant Uthada, police have registered a case against the accused bus driver, Chandrakumar Sundar Lihzare (32), a resident of Binaki Mangalwari.
Chandrakumar drives a Sanjay Travels bus bearing number MH-40-CT-6268. Around 12:40 pm, he was taking the bus out from Deshpande Layout. At the same time, Damini was returning home after picking up her son Rivansh from school, riding a two-wheeler bearing number MH-49-TCD-053.
