Rain returns to Nagpur, yellow alert issued for 8 Vidarbha districts

Monsoon activity has picked up again in Nagpur and Vidarbha. Rain that fell on Saturday continued into Sunday morning, prompting the weather department to issue a fresh warning.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Nagpur (RMC Nagpur) issued a yellow alert on Sunday, September 13, at 7 am, valid for three hours. According to the weather department, rain and thunder could occur in the coming hours in several districts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur.

According to the Nowcast Warning from the IMD and RMC Nagpur, light to moderate rain is likely at various places in Nagpur. Lightning and thunderstorms with strong winds are also likely at one or two places in Yavatmal, Wardha and Chandrapur, besides Nagpur. The weather department said wind speeds in these areas could reach 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, and advised people to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

Besides Nagpur, the weather department has also issued a yellow warning for the Vidarbha districts of Gondia, Gadchiroli, Washim and Buldhana. Light to moderate rain is likely at various places in these districts as well. People have been advised to avoid open areas during thunder and lightning and to be careful during strong winds.

This Nowcast alert was issued at 7 am and was valid for three hours, until 10 am.

Earlier, on Saturday, September 12, the weather in Nagpur city changed suddenly in the afternoon. Dark clouds gathered after around 2:30 pm and rain began, bringing relief to people troubled by heat and humidity. Temperatures also fell after the rain.

The fresh warning issued on Sunday has again raised the possibility of rain in the city. However, temperatures are also expected to gradually rise in the coming days. Fluctuations in weather, with rain, clouds and rising heat, are likely to continue in Nagpur.
