Fire breaks out at under-construction tiles showroom in Nagpur
Fire brigade brought a blaze at Baidyanath Chowk under control quickly, with no injuries reported.
Panic broke out in the Baidyanath Chowk area of Nagpur around 11 am on Wednesday when a fire suddenly broke out at an under-construction tiles showroom. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Imamwada police station, part of Nagpur district. The shop that caught fire is reported to be the under-construction premises of Shree Om Decor, whose work had not yet been completed.
People in nearby shops first heard a noise from inside, and on stepping out saw smoke and flames rising from the under-construction premises. Wooden panels kept inside for decoration caught fire in no time. With wood and other flammable material present inside, the fire spread rapidly, causing panic among those present and unease in nearby shops.
The Cotton Market fire station was informed as soon as the incident came to light. Two fire engines reached the spot immediately and began firefighting work. Due to the prompt response of the firefighters, the blaze was brought under control after a short effort. Timely action prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby shops, averting further damage in the area.
Had the fire department team arrived even a little later, the fire could have spread to nearby commercial shops, widening the scale of the damage. It was a relief that no one was injured in the entire incident at Baidyanath Chowk, with all those present escaping unhurt.
A preliminary probe suggests the fire may have been caused by sparking or a short circuit in the flex boards put up for the shop's decoration. However, the exact cause of the fire will only be clear once a detailed investigation is complete.
