Nagpur district court to get modern new building: CM Fadnavis

Work at the Nagpur district court is steadily growing, and a large, well-equipped new building will soon be built to meet this, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in Nagpur today. He also appealed to everyone associated with the judicial system to fulfil their responsibility towards the underprivileged and aspirational sections of society.

The occasion was the induction ceremony of the new executive committee of the Nagpur District Bar Association, held this evening at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall. Chief Minister Fadnavis was the chief guest, while former Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai presided. Also present were Justice Anil Kilor, administrative judge of the Bombay High Court's Nagpur bench, Minister of State for Law and Justice Advocate Ashish Jaiswal, and Principal District and Sessions Judge of Nagpur M.S. Azmi. Also present were Bar Association president Advocate Prakash Jaiswal, secretary Anil Gulhane, former association president Roshan Bagde and former secretary Manish Randive.

Wishing the new executive committee well, Fadnavis said there has been a tremendous change in the judicial system, with large-scale use of technology now under way. He said that in this changing era, there is a need to work towards further strengthening the common man's trust in the justice delivery process and meeting his expectation of speedy justice. He called the Nagpur Bar Association's tradition a very proud one. He also praised former Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai, saying he had always helped the poor and needy, and that everyone associated with the delivery of justice should keep his example before them.

Speaking on law, the judicial system and the role of the bar association, former Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai said Maharashtra is ahead in judicial infrastructure and that a great deal of work has been done in this direction in recent years. Referring to the setting up of the law university and the Kolhapur bench, he said Chief Minister Fadnavis had never let there be a shortage of funds for these projects and had personally taken the initiative to push several of them forward. He also asked lawyers to contribute to social causes.

Justice Anil Kilor said the Nagpur Bar Association's 150-year-old tradition was a matter of great pride, and that the association should come forward to produce lawyers with a sense of social responsibility and understanding. He said the legal profession was not a profession but social work, and that everyone should step outside the four walls and try to reach the last person in society.

New executive committee president Advocate Prakash Jaiswal and Principal District and Sessions Judge M.S. Azmi also shared their views, while Advocate Roshan Bagde gave the introductory remarks. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was given membership of the Nagpur Bar Association on the occasion.

In the new executive committee, Advocate Prakash S. Jaiswal has become president and Advocate Anil Gulhane secretary. They are joined by vice-presidents Advocate Vikas Karhade and Advocate Vaishali Bagade, joint secretaries Advocate Pankaj Rajwade and Advocate Ruby Singh, treasurer Advocate Preeti Pimpalkar and library head Advocate Saurabh Raut. Also taking charge as members were Advocate Rohit Ramteke, Advocate Sushant Patil, Advocate Inderdeep Singh Kalsi, Advocate Amey Funde, Advocate Mangesh Ladhe and Advocate Navjyot Soni, while Advocate Pooja Sharma, Advocate Sneha Petkar and Advocate Meghna Bobde took charge as women's reserved representatives. Those present congratulated the new executive committee. Several legal experts, lawyers, students and members of the public attended the event.
