Nagbhir: Irrigation wells completed but four farmers still await subsidy

Irrigation wells built under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Pardi (Thawre) village of Nagbhir taluka have been completed, but the farmers who built them have not received a single rupee in their accounts. The subsidy for the work has already been credited to the gram panchayat's account, yet it has not reached the beneficiaries, leaving four farmers in distress.

The wells were built in 2025. Four farmers, Devram Kashinath Thawre, Homdeo Gopala Meshram, Shyamala Tukaram Bhoyar and Nishikant Purushottam Randive, completed the well work at their own expense and have been waiting for the subsidy ever since. The gram panchayat is said to have received the subsidy amount, but the farmers have not yet benefited from it.

The reason is that an administrator has been in charge of the Pardi (Thawre) gram panchayat since February 16. The administrator is barred from carrying out financial transactions other than for sanitation, water supply and staff salaries. This is why the subsidy could not be disbursed to the beneficiaries of the irrigation wells, meaning the money exists but has not reached the farmers actually entitled to it.

Dinesh Yerne, gram sevak of Pardi (Thawre), said financial action in this matter would only be possible once further orders are received.

After repeated follow-up failed to resolve the issue, the frustrated farmers took their grievance to Shiv Sena taluka chief Girish Navghade. Navghade then took the farmers to Chandrapur, met the district collector and submitted a memorandum. He demanded that the issue of farmers who completed the irrigation well work but were denied the subsidy be resolved immediately and that the amount be credited to their accounts at the earliest.
