Mira Bhayandar sets up 24 immersion spots for Ganeshotsav, 19 artificial, 5 natural
Civic body separates large idols for natural water bodies from smaller ones headed to artificial ponds across the city.

Ahead of this year's Ganeshotsav, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has begun preparations for the immersion of Ganesh idols across the city. The civic body has set up a total of 24 immersion spots this year. Five natural water bodies have been reserved for idols taller than 6 feet, while 19 artificial ponds will be created for smaller idols under 6 feet. The corporation says separate arrangements for large and small idols will make the immersion process smoother.
The 19 artificial ponds for idols under 6 feet will be set up across various parts of the city, including Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ground, the open ST ground, Balasaheb Thackeray Ground in Bhayandar East, Major Dhyanchand Ground, Jesal Park Chowpatty, Balaji Ground, the ground opposite Don Bosco School on Mira Road, Shivar Garden, Patil Ground in Morva village, and the Ramdev Park area. Artificial ponds will also be set up at Nagarbhavan Pond in Bhayandar West, the old Naghar Pond in Bhayandar East, the ground opposite S.N. College, Padmavati Pond in Ghodbunder, Naska Pond, Jarimari Pond in Kashimira, Satkari Pond in Miragaon, and Sukala Pond in Penkarpada. In all, the list comes to 19 artificial ponds, spread across different parts of the city so residents can immerse idols at a spot close to them.
Larger idols, those above 6 feet, will be immersed only in natural water bodies. The five natural water bodies reserved for this include Uttan beach, the Bhayandar West creek shore, the Bhayandar East creek shore, the Retibunder creek shore in Ghodbunder, and the Chena river.
Last year, a total of 99,167 Ganesh idols and Gauri idols were immersed in the city. The corporation has said this number is likely to rise further this year. Given the expected crowds, adequate manpower will be deployed at all immersion spots to ensure the process goes off without delay and smoothly.
The corporation has made special arrangements to keep the immersion process safe and accident free. Devotees will not be allowed to enter the water themselves to immerse idols; instead, special immersion squads will be deployed to take the idols from devotees and carry out the immersion. Police teams will also be stationed at all immersion spots to prevent any mishaps. Medical teams will be arranged at every immersion spot so that immediate help is available in case of an emergency.
