People hoping to buy a home in and around Mumbai have a reason to cheer, with MHADA's Konkan Board set to hold a lottery for around 1000 affordable homes soon. The official advertisement for the lottery is expected to be released before Dussehra, with the MHADA administration working to complete the entire lottery process before Diwali.
With home prices in Mumbai soaring, many people look for houses in the suburbs adjoining the city, which is why thousands of applicants await MHADA's Konkan Board lottery every year. This time, the lottery covers around 1000 homes built at various locations in the Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli and Vasai-Virar municipal corporation areas.
The homes will mainly be available for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) categories. According to initial information, these homes are expected to be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh, giving families with limited budgets and lower incomes a chance to buy a home in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) at a low cost.
The number of homes on offer this time is lower than before. The state government has recently taken an important policy decision regarding the 20 percent share of homes that private builders (developers) hand over to MHADA. Under this decision, these homes will no longer be sold directly through MHADA but will instead be distributed through the respective municipal corporations. This is the reason the total number of homes in the Konkan Board's lottery has come down slightly. Even so, the process for the lottery of the available 1000 homes is moving ahead quickly.
Konkan Board Chief Officer Dr Vishal Rathod said, "The advertisement for the lottery of around 1000 homes with the Konkan Board will be issued before Dussehra, and all the administrative work related to it is progressing rapidly."
Once the advertisement is issued, complete details of the application process, eligibility conditions, income categories, exact locations of the homes and final prices will be made available. Anyone planning to buy a home should keep an eye on MHADA's official announcement.
