Mumbai Metro is preparing for another key step towards launching Line 9 Phase 2. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) is set to carry out essential signalling and train testing to properly integrate the three new stations of this phase with the already operational Line 9 Phase 1 and the rest of the existing metro network.

For this pre-commissioning testing, a special morning block will be taken from September 15 to 25, 2026. During this period, passenger services on Metro Line 2A, Line 7 and Line 9 Phase 1 will begin at 6:30 am, later than the usual start time.

The special block is being taken to give the technical team continuous working time when passenger service is shut. During this window, the migration, testing and verification of the signalling software will be carried out safely. Care has been taken to limit the impact to a fixed morning window so that passengers face minimal inconvenience.

The signalling software needed for speed testing on Metro Line 9 Phase 2 is now ready, clearing the way for the next major phase of testing and commissioning.

Since Line 9 Phase 2 has to be properly integrated with the operational Line 2A, Line 7 and Line 9 Phase 1, the new phase's signalling system needs to be tested and verified against the existing operational network.

The controlled migration and testing of the signalling software will be carried out through the Operations Control Centre (OCC) at Charkop Depot. Since the existing lines run scheduled passenger services every day, this critical technical testing can only be carried out during the controlled window when passenger service is shut.

This is why the special morning block is said to be necessary to complete integration testing in line with set safety and operational standards.

Passengers have been asked to plan their travel keeping in mind that services on Metro Line 2A, Line 7 and Line 9 Phase 1 will start at 6:30 am between September 15 and 25, 2026.

MMMOCL has thanked passengers for their cooperation during this temporary change while it completes the testing needed to safely launch Metro Line 9 Phase 2.
