Mahavitaran to cut power to defaulters, orders smart meter installation
Nagpur power utility Mahavitaran has ordered a crackdown on unpaid bills, meter faults and power theft across Nagpur and Amravati circles
Nagpur Mahavitaran is set to take a strict stance on power bill recovery. Commercial Director Yogesh Gadkari has directed all officers and staff to work in mission mode on three fronts: providing customers uninterrupted, good quality service, completely stopping distribution and commercial losses, and achieving one hundred percent recovery of bills that have been sent out.
The directive was given at a joint high level meeting of the Nagpur and Amravati circles held at the Vidyut Bhavan office in Nagpur. The aim is to ensure better service for customers. Gadkari said complaints must be resolved immediately and correct bills must be sent. Orders have also been given to immediately replace faulty meters or those where readings are not being obtained, with the latest smart meters.
He also said that to clear doubts or misconceptions customers have about smart meters, Mahavitaran officials should speak directly with customers and create awareness about how accurate smart meters are.
Aggressive steps will now be taken to strengthen the power distribution system and increase Nagpur Mahavitaran's revenue. Directions have also been given to disconnect power supply, as per rules, to customers who are not paying their bills. A special inspection drive has also been ordered to be intensified to curb major losses from power theft.
Notably, for customers who have smart meters installed and whose connections have been automatically disconnected over dues but who are still not paying their bills, orders have been given to conduct direct inspections at each such customer's home, and to take strict legal action if unauthorised power use or theft is found.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer Mangesh Kohat, Amravati circle Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke, Nagpur circle Chief Engineer Rajesh Naik, Superintending Engineer Swapnil Gotmare and Superintending Engineer Amit Paranjpe. All superintending engineers, executive engineers, senior managers of both circles and heads of various departments of the Nagpur circle also attended the meeting in large numbers.
