Maharashtra sets up separate portal for non-teaching staff recruitment in schools

Maharashtra has made the recruitment process for non-teaching posts in recognised private partially and fully aided secondary and higher secondary schools online. The state government has prepared a separate "Non-Teaching Individual Recognition Portal" for this purpose.

The portal has been created to grant individual recognition to employees in categories such as junior clerk, full-time librarian and laboratory assistant. Director of Education Dr Mahesh Palkar has directed that individual recognition of appointments and Shalarth-related processes now be carried out through this portal.

Under a decision taken on August 11, 2026, the government has approved filling vacant non-teaching posts. However, the process of promotion and compassionate appointment will have to be followed first. If posts remain vacant even after these two processes, 80 percent of the vacancies determined as per the sanctioned strength can be filled through direct recruitment.

For direct recruitment, institutions must first check their updated roster point register. After this, they must prepare the advertisement format and send a proposal to the concerned education officer or the departmental deputy director of education. The advertisement must be published in local and state-level newspapers as well as on the institution's website and the school notice board. At least three months must be allowed for the entire process, from submission of applications through scrutiny, interviews and final selection.

Rules on the age limit have also been clarified. The maximum age limit for open category candidates has been set at 38 years, while candidates from backward classes will get relaxation up to 43 years. The appointment will be on an honorarium basis for the first three years. In-camera recording of interviews will also be mandatory, and the institution will have to preserve it.

Individual recognition and Shalarth-related processes for appointments made before May 28, 2025 will also now have to be carried out through this new portal. The government has said the portal's website will be made available soon, and all concerned schools have been directed to upload information about their non-teaching employees on the portal.
