Maharashtra's home department is preparing to open a fresh round of police recruitment covering roughly 8,100 posts, offering a fresh chance to lakhs of young aspirants across the state who are preparing for the force.

The department has asked the police establishment to furnish a complete count of posts that will fall vacant up to June 2027, and this figure is expected to form the basis of the new drive. Officers from various districts and units have been compiling and sending in their numbers to the state headquarters, and only once this exercise is complete will a final recruitment schedule be drawn up and an official notification issued.

Going by the current planning, online applications for the posts are likely to open between December 1 and December 31, 2026, with the actual recruitment exercise, covering the written examination and physical test, expected to run between January 1 and March 31, 2027. Category-wise reservation, educational qualification, age limit and the exact exam pattern will be spelt out only in the formal notification, and candidates have been cautioned against acting on any unofficial figures in the meantime.

Among the districts, Solapur alone is expected to see around 117 posts filled, though numbers for the rest of the state are yet to be finalised. Training for an earlier batch of recruits is already under way since June, and training for the remaining candidates from that batch is due to begin in February 2027, which is why officials indicate the fresh recruitment process itself could get under way as early as January.

The state has carried out large-scale recruitment drives every year for the past two years under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and this year's exercise for 15,631 police posts has already been completed. Candidates who missed out this time, as well as fresh aspirants, have been urged to keep up their physical and written preparation and to track the official Maharashtra Police website for updates.
