Sapkal attacks law and order, demands Fadnavis resign

The political atmosphere in Maharashtra has heated up over the law and order issue. Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal launched a sharp attack on Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, directly demanding his resignation. "Has Maharashtra become Taliban? When even ministers' families are not safe, what will happen to ordinary people?" Sapkal asked, cornering the government.

Sapkal said the Maharashtra Police once commanded great authority, but its image has been damaged over the past few years. He made serious allegations, saying the police are being used to pressure political opponents and for extortion. Sapkal said Devendra Fadnavis's handling of affairs is responsible for the state's condition.

Citing an attack on minister Atul Save's brother and nephew in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, Sapkal questioned the government. He also referred to an earlier incident of molestation of a union minister's daughter in Jalgaon. Sapkal said, "When even ministers' families are not safe, who can the common man rely on?"

Sapkal also raised the issue of hooliganism, drugs and gangsters in the state. He alleged that goons and criminals are roaming freely due to political patronage. He said sloganeering about a "Drug Free Maharashtra" alone will not solve the problem, and that it requires concrete political will.

Raising the issue of action by Pune Police, Sapkal took another dig at the government. He referred to the State Human Rights Commission's recommendation made in the case of juvenile accused being paraded on the bonnet of a car. According to Sapkal, the action taken against Pune Police exposes Fadnavis's handling of affairs.

Sapkal also cited alleged assault incidents in Ahilyanagar and Jalna districts. Criticising the government, he alleged inhuman treatment of citizens in the name of cow protection. He claimed that criminals in the state no longer have any fear of the law.

Overall, the Congress has once again targeted the Mahayuti government over the law and order issue in Maharashtra. Harshvardhan Sapkal said Devendra Fadnavis has proved a failure as home minister and should give up his post.
