There is relief for Ganesh devotees travelling to their villages in Konkan and other districts of Maharashtra for Ganeshotsav. On the initiative of Shiv Sena MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, a large-scale free ST bus service is being run again this year from the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency. This time more than 1,100 ST buses will leave from Kalyan for different districts, giving around 45,000 to 50,000 Ganesh devotees the benefit of free travel.
From Thursday, the entire arrangement has been systematically planned at Premier Company Ground, Sandap, on Kalyan-Shil Road, led by MLA Rajesh More. Buses will also leave from Dombivli, Kalyan East and Diva, as well as from Ambernath, Ulhasnagar and Kalwa. According to the information available, around 350 buses will go from Dombivli, 210 from Kalyan East and more than 150 from Diva.
Around 500 buses for the Dombivli and Diva areas will arrive from ST depots in different districts of Maharashtra from Thursday afternoon at the area opposite Samant petrol pump on Kalyan-Shil Road. These buses will then be brought to Premier Company Ground, Sandap, on Diva Road. The buses will be sent to the respective areas according to the registrations made by the Ganesh devotees. From 5 pm on Friday, these buses will leave for the Konkan districts of Raigad, Khed, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, as well as for Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Karad.
Given the rising demand from Ganesh devotees, this year the bus service has also been made available for Satara, Sangli, Karad and Kolhapur in addition to Konkan. To ensure devotees have a comfortable and safe journey, Shiv Sena corporators, office-bearers, and workers of the Yuva Sena and Mahila Sena have been engaged in planning and management for the past month. Special attention has been paid to crowd management, arrangement of buses and providing necessary facilities to the Ganesh devotees.
Every year during Ganeshotsav, a large number of people travel from Mumbai and Thane to their villages in Konkan and other districts. This free ST bus service will prove to be a big relief for them.
