81-year-old meets PM Modi over land dispute, seeks CBI probe
Asgar Ali Vora alleges his Mira-Bhayandar plot was grabbed in 2011 using forged documents, and wants a CBI investigation
An 81-year-old man, Asgar Ali Vora, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly, saying he had failed to get justice over a long-standing land dispute in Mira-Bhayandar. Vora has demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation, or CBI, probe the alleged land scam in Mira-Bhayandar. After the meeting, the local administration has also taken cognisance of the matter.
Vora says he bought about 2,810 square metres of land in the Naughar area of Bhayandar East in 1989 through registered documents. He alleges that a few years later, the land was encroached upon. He has named Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Construction, which he says is linked to former BJP MLA Narendra Mehta, in the case.
According to Vora, the land was encroached upon around 2011. He has also made the serious allegation that forged documents related to the land transaction were prepared, and that the actual owner was not informed about these documents. He claims the land was split into two parts, with Swayam Builders shown in possession of one part and Seven Eleven Construction shown in possession of the other. Vora says the entire matter should be thoroughly investigated.
An FIR was registered over this land dispute in 2015 and the case is currently pending in court. Vora claims that for several years he kept complaining to the revenue department, the municipal corporation and the police, but did not get the justice he sought. After repeated attempts to resolve the matter administratively failed, he finally decided to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vora says he met PM Modi on September 8. He claims he received a positive response after raising the issue with the Prime Minister. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik also released photographs and a press note about the meeting.
Following the meeting with the PM, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation administration has also taken cognisance of the land dispute. The administration has fixed a hearing on the matter for September 16. The corporation has directed representatives of Seven Eleven Construction and Swayam Builders to be present at the hearing. All eyes are now on what emerges at the September 16 hearing and what decision the administration takes.
The construction companies and other parties named in the case have not yet responded officially. Asgar Ali Vora's allegations and claims can only be confirmed through the investigation and hearing process. What decision is taken on the demand for a CBI probe will also be significant.
