The design of the new Gondwana University campus coming up in Gadchiroli must take into account modern academic facilities as well as the university's future needs. This direction was given by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur on the 11th. He said the campus should show a blend of Gond architecture and modern style, and that this should be given priority.

A plan has been prepared for building an academic complex, an administrative building and student hostels on 186 acres of land for Gondwana University in Gadchiroli. Chief Minister Fadnavis was giving guidance during a presentation of this plan.

Present on the occasion were state Minister of State for Finance and Planning Advocate Ashish Jaiswal, Gondwana University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Shriram Kawale, Public Works Department Chief Engineer Sambhaji Mane, Superintending Engineer Sonali Chavan, architect Jagannath Tawadekar, and university engineers Jitendra Ambagade and Umesh Rathod.

The Chief Minister said that while a favourable environment for industrial development is emerging in the Gadchiroli region, academic and research activities for students should also be encouraged. He said national and international-level facilities need to be created for this. He said the university building should preserve the heritage of Gond architecture while blending it with modern style, and that the best campuses in the country and the state should be studied to develop the best possible campus.

Gondwana University is being developed on 186 acres of land, of which 27 lakh square feet of space has become available. The entire campus is very important from an education and research perspective. While building modern facilities for various academic activities here, the campus should also be environmentally rich. A plan worth Rs 1,100 crore has been prepared for developing this campus, of which Rs 157 crore has already been approved by the central and state governments.

Minister of State Advocate Ashish Jaiswal said care should be taken that the university building blends with the local environment while also having modern facilities. Public Works Department Chief Engineer Sambhaji Mane said that while building the complex on the university campus, efforts are being made to construct a beautiful building that includes facilities for students, academic activities and research. The main building will be constructed only after studying architectural style during the development of the campus.

It was stated that priority will be given in this campus to environment-friendly green buildings, energy saving, buildings required for 27 different academic courses, an artificial pond, capacity to store 6 crore litres of water, a medicinal garden and creating a good academic environment for students.
