The Gondia Zilla Parishad's education department (primary) organised a district teacher award and meritorious student felicitation ceremony on September 9 at the late Vasantrao Naik Hall. Zilla Parishad president Laikram Bhendarkar presided over the function.

Teachers who had done notable work in education and contributed to the all-round development of students were honoured with mementos and certificates. Meritorious students from Gondia district who had performed well academically were also felicitated with mementos and certificates. The felicitation created an atmosphere of enthusiasm among both teachers and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Laikram Bhendarkar said teachers are important architects in the shaping of society. He said teachers should keep making efforts for the all-round development of students, besides giving them the right direction, values and inspiration. He noted the need to raise the standard of education by making effective use of knowledge and technology in changing times. He also appealed to teachers to run new initiatives to boost quality, creativity and confidence among students.

The ceremony recognised meritorious students who had achieved success through determination, hard work and consistency despite adverse circumstances. Bhendarkar said teachers' guidance and parents' support were important behind students' success, and that such honours for meritorious students inspire them to progress further. He also stressed that such programmes should be held continuously to encourage teachers' work and boost students' merit.

The programme was attended by Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Zenith Chandra Dontula, Zilla Parishad vice-president Suresh Harshe, finance and works committee chairman Dr Lakshman Bhagat, social welfare committee chairperson Rajni Kumbhare, women and child welfare committee chairperson Purnima Dhenge, and animal husbandry and agriculture committee chairperson Deepa Chandrikapure.

Also present were Zilla Parishad members Vimal Katre, Tumeshwari Baghele, Lakshmi Tarone, Chaturbhuj Bisen, Hanwant Watti, Ashwini Patle, Jayashree Deshmukh, Ananda Wadhiwa, Vaishali Pandhre, Ritesh Malgham, Chabutai Uke, Preeti Katlam, Ushatai Shahare and Vandana Kale, along with Panchayat Samiti member Huparaj Jamaiwar. Education officer (primary) Pawan Khandare, education officer (secondary) Sudhir Mahamuni, all group education officers, and a large number of teachers, students, parents and officials and staff from the education department attended the programme.

The event, which honoured teachers' work and celebrated the success of meritorious students, proved inspiring for the education sector, with those present giving it an enthusiastic response.
