Elections have been announced for the Gokul Milk Union, the Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, a body considered central to cooperative and political life in Kolhapur district. Voters will now decide who controls the union's 25-seat board of directors for the next five years. Returning officer and sub-divisional officer Mausami Chougule announced the election schedule on Wednesday, September 9.
According to Chougule, voting will take place on October 18, with results declared the next day, October 19, after counting. That day will settle who holds sway over Gokul for the next five years.
Nomination forms can be filed starting September 15. Candidates may submit forms on five dates: September 15, 16, 17, 21 and 22. Scrutiny of the forms filed will take place on September 23. Candidates will then have the option to withdraw their nominations between September 25 and October 8. Once the withdrawal period ends, the final list of contesting candidates will be released and election symbols allotted.

Campaigning is expected to intensify once the final list of candidates is settled.
