Nagpur's Adasa temple gets B-grade pilgrimage site status ahead of Ganeshotsav

Just ahead of the start of Ganeshotsav, the state government has officially granted B-grade rural pilgrimage site status to the famous Adasa Ganesh temple, also known as Shami Vighnesh Ganpati Devasthan, located in Kalmeshwar taluka of Nagpur district.

The announcement, coming amid preparations for the arrival of the Ganesh idol, has brought a wave of joy across the Vidarbha region and among devotees.

Until now, the Adasa Ganesh temple was classified as a C-grade rural pilgrimage site. The Additional Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Nagpur had sent a proposal to the government on August 18, 2026, to upgrade the temple's status to B-grade.

Following this, the State Criteria Committee, headed by the Secretary of the Rural Development Department, examined the proposal in full at a meeting held on August 19, 2026. After the committee found that all the prescribed criteria were met, the state government approved granting the temple B-grade status.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken this key decision to grant B-grade pilgrimage site status to the Adasa Ganesh temple (Shami Vighnesh Ganpati Devasthan) in Kalmeshwar taluka of Nagpur district under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Rural Pilgrimage Site Scheme, the Maharashtra CMO said.

The Rural Development Department of the Maharashtra government has taken this decision under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Rural Pilgrimage Site Scheme. A government order in this regard was issued on September 8, 2026. The order was issued in the name of the Governor of Maharashtra, on the directions of Prashant Patil, Deputy Secretary of the Rural Development Department.

The Adasa temple is a deep centre of faith for lakhs of devotees across the Vidarbha region. The B-grade status will lead to a major expansion of basic facilities at this old and historic temple complex.

It will also bring major development of facilities such as water, sanitation, transport, accommodation and darshan for devotees coming from India and abroad, enabling a complete transformation of the pilgrimage site.

The news, coming on the occasion of Ganeshotsav, has generated tremendous enthusiasm among the Adasa temple trust, local residents and devotees arriving from far and wide. With B-grade status granted, the way is now fully open for government funds and grants for the planned development of the temple area.
