Chandrapur police hold major route march ahead of Ganeshotsav, SP appeals for peace

With Ganeshotsav approaching, police carried out a major route march in Chandrapur city to maintain law and order. The march was held between 6 pm and 7 pm on September 12, 2026, to prevent any disturbance during the festival and to reassure residents about their safety.

The route march started from Chandrapur City police station. From there it moved through Gandhi Chowk, Jatpura Gate and Dawa Bazaar, passed along the immersion route falling under the jurisdiction of Ramnagar police station, and ended at Kevalram Chowk. Passing through the city's main market and key roads helped boost public confidence in security arrangements.

The march was carried out under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pramod Chaugule. Officers and staff in large numbers from the Chandrapur City, Ramnagar and Durgapur police stations under the Chandrapur sub-division took part. Personnel from the Sub-Divisional Police Officer's office, the Local Branch, the Conviction Branch, the Economic Offences Wing, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), SRPF Group Number 17, and home guards called in for Ganeshotsav bandobast duty were also present.

In all, 33 police officers, 255 police personnel, one Quick Response Team (QRT) and 94 jawans took part in the route march. Personnel equipped with batons and helmets were accompanied by riot control equipment and tear gas systems. CCTV vans, a riot control squad vehicle, patrolling vehicles, traffic vehicles, marshal vehicles and Dial 112 vehicles also led the march. During the march, police also made people aware about avoiding the misuse of social media, maintaining communal harmony and following traffic rules.

On the occasion, Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani appealed to all residents of Chandrapur district to celebrate Ganeshotsav peacefully and within the rules. He said no one should spread false or misleading information on social media or make any statement that creates tension between two religions or castes, and asked people to cooperate with the police in maintaining peace. He also asked people to follow traffic rules and fully comply with all guidelines issued by the administration for the festival.

Nopani also said the use of DJs, plasma screens and laser lights that can harm the eyes should be completely avoided during the celebrations, and traditional instruments should be preferred. Ganesh mandals were also urged to cooperate with the police by putting up banners and hoardings promoting social awareness during processions. The administration said, "Chandrapur police are always ready, with you, for you."
