Mumbai Metro to run till 12.30 am during Ganeshotsav, adds 10-15 extra trips

Maha Mumbai Metro has announced a special facility for Mumbaikars heading out late at night to visit different Ganesh mandals during Ganeshotsav. From September 14 to September 25, 2026, services on Metro lines 2A, 7, 9 and 2B will run till 12.30 am. Anticipating the crowds, the operator has also planned 10 to 15 extra trips in addition to the regular services.

Currently, the last metro from these stations departs at 11 pm, but during Ganeshotsav this has been extended by an hour and a half. The last metro on line 2A from Andheri West and Dahisar East, on lines 7 and 9 from Gundavali and Kashigaon, and on line 2B from Maharashtra Nagar-Mandale and Chembur will now leave at 12.30 am.

A full schedule of extra trips on each line has also been drawn up. From Monday to Friday, line 2A will run 299 trips in all, including 10 extra trips. Lines 7 and 9 will run 290 trips, of which 14 will be extra. Line 2B has planned 180 trips, including 15 extra.

On Saturdays, line 2A will run 241 trips including 10 extra, lines 7 and 9 will run 237 trips including 14 extra, and line 2B will run 180 trips including 15 extra.

On Sundays, line 2A is planned to run 223 trips, lines 7 and 9 to run 219 trips, and line 2B to run 180 trips, with 10, 14 and 15 extra trips respectively included in these figures.

During Ganeshotsav in Mumbai, large numbers of people step out late at night to visit popular Ganesh mandals, putting pressure on both road traffic and public transport. The increased metro service is expected to make it easier for people to enjoy the festivities late into the night and still return home by public transport.

Maha Mumbai Metro's special arrangement is meant to provide safe and comfortable access to various Ganesh mandals and festival venues. An appeal has also been made to make greater use of public transport this year to celebrate Ganeshotsav in a manner free of traffic jams and friendly to the environment.
