A worker died on Monday morning after his arm was torn off in a conveyor belt accident at a company in the MIDC police station area of Nagpur. Rohit Ramdular Chaubey, 30, was on duty at Nico Heavy Engineering Casting Limited when his hand got caught in a conveyor belt, and the accident was so severe that his arm was separated from his shoulder. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but his condition worsened further on the way, and doctors declared him dead as soon as he reached Medical Hospital.

The accident occurred around 8:30 am on Monday at Nico Heavy Engineering Casting Limited, located at Plot No. 65/2. The deceased has been identified as Rohit Ramdular Chaubey (30), a resident of Panchsheel Nagar, Isasani.

According to information, Rohit had reported for work as usual on Monday morning. He was working on a crane that carried sand and soil near an iron-melting furnace. During this, his arm got caught in the conveyor belt, which severed it from his shoulder and left him severely injured.

As soon as the accident happened, fellow workers immediately switched off the crane and brought Rohit down. Co-workers took him, along with his severed arm, to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital in Digdoh for treatment. But seeing his critical condition, doctors referred him to Medical Hospital. On reaching Medical Hospital, doctors examined him and declared him dead.

Co-workers said Rohit had earlier worked as a plumber's assistant and held another job elsewhere. It is being said that this was the first time he had been sent to work at such a height. There is an atmosphere of grief at the company following the accident.

Rohit is survived by his wife and a four-month-old child. The tragic accident has left the family without its breadwinner. The family was plunged into mourning on receiving news of the incident.

MIDC police have registered a case and begun investigating the accident.
