A frightening incident has once again occurred on a Mumbai local train during the morning rush. On September 10, 2026, during the morning peak hours of 7 am to 10 am, a woman passenger travelling on a Central Railway local fell directly onto the railway track between Diva and Mumbra stations.

The local had left Dombivli station at 7:56 am for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. As usual, the train was packed with morning commuters. After crossing Diva station, the local slowed down and stopped near Mumbra because of a signal. During this halt, a woman passenger standing near the door in the crowded coach slipped and fell onto the track below.

Seeing the woman fall onto the track, other passengers in the coach panicked. They quickly and sensibly helped her. The most important thing was that the train was already halted at the signal when she fell, which prevented a major accident. It is reported that the woman suffered minor injuries.

After the incident, some women passengers in the coach were so frightened that they got off the train and decided to walk along the railway track to Mumbra station. This is equally serious from a safety standpoint, since walking on railway tracks is considered extremely dangerous. Had another train come on the adjoining track, it could have led to a major accident.

Local commuters say that on this route during the morning peak hours, an AC local runs first, followed by an ordinary local that gets extremely crowded. With no standing room left in the coaches, many passengers end up travelling near the doors. Commuters are questioning the local train schedule and are demanding more trips of ordinary locals during rush hour.

There is a sharp bend in the railway track between Diva and Mumbra stations, and there have been previous incidents of passengers falling from crowded locals in this stretch. This has once again raised the issue of passenger safety on this route. Following the incident, passengers are demanding additional locals during the morning and evening rush, a review of the timetable to reduce the burden on ordinary locals, and concrete safety measures on the Diva-Mumbra stretch.
