Delhi private schools reopen free EWS admissions, apply by September 20

There is good news for children from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category hoping to study in Delhi's private schools. The Directorate of Education (DoE) has reopened the application process for free admissions under this quota for classes above the first for the 2026-27 session. This comes as relief for parents who missed the chance to get their children admitted in class one.

The last date to apply is September 20. Families who cannot afford the high fees charged by private schools in Delhi stand to benefit directly from the scheme.

Certain conditions have been set to ensure the benefit reaches the right and needy children. The first condition is that the family's total annual income from all sources must be less than Rs 5 lakh. Parents must also have a valid income certificate issued by Delhi's Revenue Department.

The applying family must be a bona fide resident of Delhi and must submit a valid residence proof. Families holding BPL, AAY ration cards or food security cards will also be considered eligible for the quota. For admission to class two, a child's age must not exceed 7 years as on March 31.

The Directorate of Education has reopened the registration window on its official website, and parents can fill the online form from home. Since the last date to apply is September 20, it would be better to fill the form well in time to avoid last-minute technical problems. Parents are advised to choose their preferred schools carefully while filling the form.

The Directorate of Education has clearly instructed parents to submit only one application per child. An application may be cancelled if more than one form is found to have been filled for the same child. Additionally, around 30 area teams have been formed to check the documents of selected children in order to prevent irregularities in school allotment. Parents have therefore been advised not to enter any incorrect information or address in the form.
