Dahisar-Bhayander coastal road link: work on final stretch of 60-km project underway

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has taken up a major project called the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) to ease traffic congestion and travel in Mumbai. Including interchanges and connecting roads, the entire project spans about 60 kilometres and will link the area from Versova to Bhayander via the coastal road. The work has been divided into seven packages: A, B, C, D, E, F and the Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road, or DBLR.

The Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road is a key project for the Mumbai and Mira-Bhayander area, and work is currently underway on the ground. Once built, this road will provide a direct and fast route between Dahisar West and Bhayander West. The total length of this road project is about 5.135 kilometres. It includes various engineering structures such as an elevated road, a section built on pillars through mangrove areas, an elevated structure over a creek, an elevated stretch over salt pan land, connecting roads and interchanges to distribute traffic, and a flyover.

The main elevated stretch in the Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road project, about 3.83 kilometres long and 45 metres wide, is the final section of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North). Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar visited the work site and reviewed the initial progress. Work is currently underway on installing a gabion wall fence. Besides this, work is also going on piles for the bridge foundation and pile caps on top of them.

So far, 60 piles, 5 pile caps, 4 piers, pier caps, and segment 9 of the bridge's construction work have been completed. Modern machinery is present at the work site, and a temporary access bridge arrangement is also in place. Work on the launching girder will begin in the second week of October. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar reviewed all this information.

Abhijit Bangar directed that the land acquisition process required for the project be completed quickly, with priorities set for this purpose, and that cooperation be taken from the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation along with other authorities. He said the prescribed safety standard operating procedure (SOP) must be followed carefully, barricading should be done at the site for safety while work is underway, and the work should be completed on time with good quality. He also said further planning and execution should proceed with a target of completing this work by December 2028.
