Chandrapur launches Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, CEO appeals for participation

Chandrapur district is launching the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural). The drive will run across the district from September 17 to October 2, 2026. Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pulkit Singh has appealed to citizens to take active part in the campaign.

Under the campaign, public places will be cleaned, various programmes will be held in schools, and sanitation workers will be honoured. The administration has said citizens should participate in large numbers to make the drive a success.

According to CEO Pulkit Singh, the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-2026 campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) will give a big boost to cleanliness, public participation and environmental protection efforts in Chandrapur district. He has asked the district's citizens, gram panchayats, government offices, voluntary organisations, self-help groups, students and youth to join the drive and spread awareness of cleanliness in the district.

This year's campaign theme is "Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India". The administration has said cleanliness is not the government's responsibility alone but a shared responsibility of every citizen, and several programmes have been planned with this in mind.

The campaign will focus on completely transforming Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and public places identified as important from a sanitation standpoint, which will be beautified and cleaned. A "Swachhata Gyan Yatra" will also be taken out to spread awareness among schools, colleges and youth, along with visits to waste management centres and discussions and awareness programmes on sanitation and water conservation.

One-day camps will be held for sanitation workers, Swachhagrahis and cleaning staff during the campaign, where they will be linked to various welfare schemes, given health checkups, provided with safety kits (PPE kits) and briefed on safety. Special attention will also be paid to honouring the contribution of sanitation workers.

People will also be made aware of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and of waste segregation and collection. In addition, local and regional sports competitions, cleanliness and green festivals, tree plantation programmes, the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, special events on World Tourism Day, and special gram sabhas and meetings on October 2 will also be held.

Initiatives such as "Waste to Wealth" and "Waste to Art" will be used to promote the reuse and recycling of waste. Waste management will also be advanced through the Reuse, Reduce, Recycle (RRR) programme and Bulk Waste Generators.

CEO Pulkit Singh has appealed to all gram panchayats, panchayat samitis, government departments, schools and colleges, voluntary organisations, self-help groups, youth clubs, civil society organisations, corporate bodies and the general public in the district to come forward and take part in the campaign.

Zilla Parishad CEO Pulkit Singh and Jal Jeevan Mission Project Director Machhindranath Dhas said, "The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign should not remain a drive of just a few days, it should become a lasting people's movement for cleanliness. Every citizen of every village should understand their responsibility and join the cleanliness programme. Everyone should contribute together to build a clean village, a clean area and a clean district."
