Chandrapur civic body holds clean air awareness drive, children take out cycle rally

Chandrapur Municipal Corporation held an awareness programme to alert residents to rising air pollution in the city. The event was organised to mark Clean Air Day, observed under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

The programme was presided over by the mayor. Also present were municipal commissioner Akunuri Naresh, deputy commissioner Sandeep Chidrawar, assistant commissioner Shubhangi Suryawanshi, and Panchbudhe, Amol Shelke, Santosh Gargelwar and Kushal Deshmukh. Several other officials and staff of the corporation were also present.

The highlight of the programme was a large cycle rally by children from Khalsa School and Chandrapur Municipal Corporation schools. The children cycled through the city to spread the message that curbing air pollution is necessary. Through the rally, they appealed to people to adopt eco-friendly modes of transport, use bicycles more, plant trees, avoid burning garbage and cut down on vehicle pollution.

The children drew attention along the route with slogans such as "Ride a cycle, drive out pollution", "Clean air, healthy life" and "Cut air pollution, make Chandrapur healthy".

Officials present at the event said the National Clean Air Programme aims to reduce air pollution in the city and give people a clean and healthy environment. They said the corporation continuously runs various measures and awareness programmes towards this goal, and that active participation from the public, alongside the administration, is essential to control pollution.

People were urged to use bicycles as much as possible, give priority to public transport, avoid unnecessary vehicle use, plant and maintain trees around their surroundings, and avoid burning garbage in the open.

The participation of children made the cycle rally special. They pledged to work towards a "clean, beautiful and pollution-free Chandrapur" while carrying the message of clean air and environmental protection to residents.

Officials and staff of the concerned department of Chandrapur Municipal Corporation put in special effort to make the programme a success.
