Chandrapur students hold cycle rally to mark Clean Air Day

The Chandrapur City Municipal Corporation organised a series of awareness activities across the city on Clean Air Day, under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), a central government scheme aimed at reducing air pollution in cities. The event, held under the chairmanship of the Mayor, sought to send citizens a message on clean air, environmental conservation and air pollution control.

The programme was attended by Municipal Commissioner Akunuri Naresh, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Chidrawar and Assistant Commissioner Shubhangi Suryavanshi, along with Panchbudhe, Amol Shelke, Santosh Gargelwar and Kushal Deshmukh. Several other officers and staff of the municipal corporation also took part in the event.

Marking the occasion, students from Khalsa School and various schools run by the Chandrapur City Municipal Corporation came together for a grand cycle rally. Through the rally, the students appealed to city residents to reduce air pollution, calling for greater use of eco-friendly transport and bicycles, planting of trees, an end to burning of garbage, and lower vehicular pollution. Chanting slogans such as "Cycle more, pollute less", "Clean air, healthy life" and "Let's cut air pollution, let's make Chandrapur healthy", the students drew the attention of passers-by and residents, urging them to make small changes in their daily lives.

The National Clean Air Programme aims to reduce air pollution in cities and give citizens a clean and healthy environment, with the municipal corporation periodically running measures and awareness drives towards this goal. Officials present said active participation from citizens, alongside the administration, was equally important in controlling air pollution. They appealed to residents to use bicycles as much as possible, prioritise public transport, avoid unnecessary vehicle use, plant and maintain trees, and refrain from burning garbage in the open, adding that the administration alone could not achieve this goal and that every citizen needed to contribute at their own level.

The enthusiastic participation of students gave the cycle rally a distinct character, with the students pledging to build a "clean, beautiful and pollution-free Chandrapur" while spreading the message of clean air and environmental conservation among residents. Officers and staff of the relevant departments of the Chandrapur City Municipal Corporation put in special effort to make the event a success.
