Chandrapur MLA seeks 50 acres for super-speciality hospital, dental college

With the aim of ensuring patients from Chandrapur and eastern Vidarbha no longer have to travel to big cities for treatment of serious illnesses, MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar has written to Collector Vasumana Pant seeking the transfer of about 50 acres of government land adjoining the Government Medical College, Chandrapur, to the medical education department.

Mungantiwar said healthcare needs will only grow in the coming years, and this land is needed to set up a dental college, a super-speciality hospital, a nursing college and other advanced medical facilities on a single campus. In his letter, he has stated that once the land is allotted, academic departments, hospital facilities, student hostels, parking and internal roads can all be developed together in a planned manner.

As a minister, Mungantiwar had made sustained efforts to get a government medical college and cancer hospital built in Chandrapur, which has already given the city a strong medical education and healthcare infrastructure. This new demand is seen as the next step in that same direction.

A government nursing college in Chandrapur was recently approved, opening new avenues for nursing education for local students. Mungantiwar said he has also held positive discussions with Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif on setting up a dental college and a super-speciality hospital in Chandrapur. Against this backdrop, he said the 50 acres next to the medical college needs to be handed to the medical education department.

According to Mungantiwar, Chandrapur has the capacity to become a strong medical centre for the whole of eastern Vidarbha. He said advanced treatment facilities are needed here, particularly for cancer and other serious illnesses, so that patients do not have to travel to Nagpur, Mumbai or other big cities. He said the entire effort is aimed at saving patients and their families time, money and mental distress.

To ensure the land transfer process is completed quickly, Mungantiwar has asked the collector to have the revenue department complete the necessary verification, measurement and records checks at the earliest and send the proposal to the government. He has also appealed to the collector's office to prioritise this work. He said the goal is not just to make Chandrapur a city with a medical college, but to make it a major centre for medical education, research, training and advanced treatment across eastern Vidarbha, and timely allotment of the required land is the first step toward that.
