Chandrapur police arrest serial two-wheeler thief, recover Rs 2.3 lakh worth of vehicles
Local Crime Branch arrest in Chandrapur solves five two-wheeler theft cases across Chandrapur and Nagpur districts
Chandrapur's Local Crime Branch (LCB) has arrested a serial two-wheeler theft accused, recovering four motorcycles worth Rs 2.30 lakh from him. The arrest has helped solve a total of five two-wheeler theft cases in Chandrapur and Nagpur districts.
Pratik Dhanraj Jhade, 33, a resident of Mahakali Ward, was arrested. The LCB's Chandrapur sub-division team was on patrol when they received specific information that Jhade was moving around in suspicious circumstances. When police caught him, they found a TVS motorcycle (registration number MH-34-BU-5217) in his possession. Investigation revealed the vehicle had been stolen from the area under Padoli police station. A case had already been registered at Padoli police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with this theft. Under strict questioning, Jhade confessed to stealing two-wheelers from several other police station areas as well. He also revealed that he had hidden the stolen vehicles in a deserted, overgrown wooded patch in the Doodh Dairy Colony area of Chandrapur city.
Police reached the spot and recovered four vehicles from the bushes. These included a TVS motorcycle worth Rs 40,000 stolen from the Padoli area, a Honda Activa moped worth Rs 50,000 (registration number MH-34-CA-4413) stolen from the Ramnagar police station area, a Honda Activa moped worth Rs 80,000 (registration number MH-31-FL-7928) stolen from the Bardi police station area of Nagpur city, and a Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle worth Rs 60,000 (registration number MH-34-AG-6839). The combined value of the four vehicles comes to Rs 2.30 lakh. It also emerged that a Passion Pro motorcycle stolen from the Ballarpur police station area had been abandoned by him near the Manikgad area close to Rajura, which police had already recovered.
After his medical examination, police handed the accused over to Padoli police, along with the seized property, for further legal action and investigation. The action by the LCB's Chandrapur sub-division team has caused unease among vehicle theft gangs. Police have appealed to citizens to park their vehicles in safe places.
