Chandrapur launches mobile stall selling teakwood products to boost women's employment

A mobile stall selling teakwood products was launched in Chandrapur on Friday. It was inaugurated by District Collector Vasumana Pant. The initiative was set up jointly by the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM) and the Maharashtra Forest Development Corporation (FDCM).
The aim of the initiative is to give women employment and a reliable market to sell the goods they make. The district has abundant teak wood available, and it is being put to use to turn women's skills into a business. Well-made, attractive items crafted from teak wood have been put up for sale at the stall.
Present on the occasion were FDCM regional manager Divya Bharti, divisional manager Ganesh Motkar, assistant divisional manager Rupesh Patil, and conservator of forests Sambhaji Kondewar. Also present were MAVIM district coordination officer Pradeep Kathole, district project advisor Bhushan Munjekar, Narendra Bankar and Amit Chavare. Khushiya Lok Sanchalit Sadhan Kendra chairperson Sunita Ganfade and manager Sharda Huse also attended the event.
The main objective of the initiative is to further build the reputation of Chandrapur's fine teak wood while giving women a chance at employment and a platform to sell their goods. MAVIM and FDCM are working to put the district's forest resources to proper use and turn women's skills into a business.
The mobile stall has attractive teakwood statues, various kinds of furniture, chairs, tables, doors, cutting boards, mementoes, nameplates and decorative items on sale. Several kinds of handmade artworks are also available there. The goods, made from good-quality teak wood with attractive designs and the women's hard work, have turned out distinctive.
The initiative will give the goods made by women a market, create local employment, offer a chance to hone skills, and give a boost to the small businesses run by women's self-help groups. People have been urged to buy quality teakwood items according to their needs to encourage the women entrepreneurs.
