MLA Munganitiwar seeks 50 acres near Chandrapur medical college for expansion

MLA Sudhir Munganitiwar has written to Chandrapur collector Vasumana Pant asking that around 50 acres of government land adjoining the Government Medical College in Chandrapur be transferred to the medical education department, so that patients with serious illnesses do not have to travel to bigger cities for treatment.

In the letter, Munganitiwar said that given the growing healthcare needs in the coming years, it is essential to get this land to develop a dental college, a super-speciality hospital, a nursing college and other modern medical facilities within a single campus.

When he was a minister, Munganitiwar had made continuous efforts to set up the Government Medical College and a cancer hospital in Chandrapur. These efforts led to the creation of important infrastructure for medical education and healthcare in Chandrapur, and his approach of building facilities keeping future needs in mind, while putting patient care first, is reflected in this new demand as well.

The Government Nursing College in Chandrapur has recently received recognition, opening up new opportunities for local students to study nursing. Munganitiwar said he has also had positive discussions with Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif on setting up a dental college and a super-speciality hospital in Chandrapur. He said this is why it is necessary for around 50 acres of government land adjoining the Government Medical College to be transferred to the medical education department. Once the land is allotted, a plan can be drawn up to develop a dental college, super-speciality hospital, nursing college, education block, hospital facilities, student hostels, parking, internal roads and other necessary infrastructure.

Munganitiwar said Chandrapur has the capacity to provide high-level healthcare to people in Chandrapur and the wider eastern Vidarbha region, and can be developed into a strong medical centre. He said modern treatment facilities need to be built locally, particularly for cancer and other serious illnesses, so that patients do not have to rush to Nagpur, Mumbai or other big cities, saving patients and their families time, money and mental stress.

The MLA has also asked the collector to ensure that the required inquiry, measurement, verification of records and administrative process at the revenue department level for the land transfer are completed at the earliest and a proposal sent to the state government, and appealed to the collector's office to prioritise this work.

Munganitiwar's demand reflects his intention that Chandrapur should not remain just a city with one medical college, but become a strong centre for medical education, research, training and advanced treatment in eastern Vidarbha, and he stated clearly in his letter to the collector that getting the necessary land on time is a key step for this future development.
