Bipasha Basu finds worms in protein powder, tags FDA chief for help

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu has posted a video on social media making a serious claim about a protein product. The video shows small worms in a protein shake, according to Basu. She tagged Tukaram Mundhe, commissioner of the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), directly in the post.

In her social media story, Basu shared a video of the nutrition product showing small worms inside the protein powder tub. She also placed a small worm on her finger to show clearly what she had found inside the tub. According to Basu, this was a newly opened tub, and she claimed the worms were found in that new tub.

Following the incident, Basu tagged Mundhe directly and asked for help. In her post, she wrote, "Tukaramji, we should not get adulterated food items or substandard products, that is why you are my last hope." Her post triggered widespread discussion on social media.

Maharashtra is currently focused on action against poor food quality and adulteration. Inspections of hotels, restaurants and food outlets are underway across Mumbai and other parts of the state under FDA commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. Action has been taken against outlets found adulterating food items such as milk and cheese and violating rules, and licences have reportedly been suspended in some cases.

Mundhe's crackdown has drawn support from other Bollywood figures. A few days ago, actress Preity Zinta wore a T-shirt reading "Team Tukaram Mundhe" to show her support, and photos and videos of her went viral on social media. Basu's appeal over her protein product claim has now drawn further attention to the issue.
